- ➤ On January 1, community members participated in the 46-year Polar Bear Plunge in Bidwell Park's Sycamore Pool despite rain, high water flows, and safety warnings from the Fire Department. Butte County Public Health recently cleared the water + the event will return on January 1 next year. KRCR
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Round Table Pizza on Highway 99 in Gridley evacuated at 5:15 p.m. after a reported gas smell (CAL FIRE Butte County found no leak). A wind advisory is in effect from 10 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Sunday with gusts up to 45 mph north of Chico. Action News Now

- ➤ Luke and Shelly Messenger from Nord participated in the Rose Parade as part of the Spirit of the West Riders, a group with over 30 years of tradition, and they rode with four Percheron-cross mules pulling a late 1800s chuckwagon while wearing period clothing. Action News Now
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Fire crews from the Magalia Fire Center and Conservation Corps are burning brush along the Skyway to Paradise to remove dangerous fire fuel, which is causing smoke on the road's south side. A wind advisory is in effect from 10 PM Fri to 4 AM PST Sunday + drivers should secure items. Action News Now

- ➤ Chico Softball Little League will hold its 2026 registration event on Saturday, Jan. 10 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Chico Marketplace near Dick’s Sporting Goods, where board members will help families sign up girls aged 4 to 16. Action News Now
