  • Community members in Berry Creek revealed plans on Saturday to restart the Berry Creek Grange after the Bear Fire, with 26 locals applying to join — the initiative seeks to revive this local gathering hub.  Action News Now
  • In Berry Creek, residents have supported each other after the 2020 Bear Fire and recent storms brought flooding and downed trees; they are relying on self-driven efforts instead of government assistance.  Action News Now
  • Residents in Berry Creek face a tough recovery after the 2020 Bear Fire and storms left assistance gone; a new Grange will offer opportunities for FFA, 4H programs and livestock shows. Interested locals can submit an application on Feb. 7 at Fire Station 61.  Action News Now
  • The GFWC Shasta District will host its Annual Winter Conference “Sharing Kindness, Valentines & Flowers” on Saturday, Feb. 7 at historic Patrick Ranch in Durham. Registration costs $25 in-person (or $5 online) and must be completed by Jan. 30.  Action News Now

  • Tomfoolery Gifts and Gadgets, a downtown shop for over 40 years, is closing due to declining sales and new parking meter issues; owner Mary Hartley said the store remains open until all inventory is sold at 126 West 3rd St.  Action News Now
  • Mary Hartley announced Monday that Tomfoolery Gifts & Gadgets—a downtown store open for 42 years—will close due to economic pressures and shifts in shopper demographics. The shop on W 3rd Street remains open to sell all inventory at discounted prices.  KRCR
  • Tomfoolery Gifts & Gadgets, a downtown local business for 40 years, will close soon amid economic challenges and parking issues, owner Mary Hartley said. The store now sees about 10 daily customers and plans a big sale to clear its inventory.  Action News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Cami Anderson, a Butte County Office of Education teacher from Orville, has been named California Adapted Physical Education Teacher of the Year by CAHPERD for her ability to inspire students. She now qualifies for SHAPE America’s Western District award — set for Feb. 27 in Oakland.  Action News Now
  • After earning top ratings at the CAPMT Virtual Festival 2025, Chico State seniors Ellieana Gifford and Alondra Becerra-Lopez will perform at the Northern Festival on January 17 in Danville, while junior Victoria Alesandroni, although she qualified, will have a recital on campus April 9.  Chico State Today

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Highway 99 north of Chico is closed between Garner Lane and Keefer Road due to flooding — northbound drivers are rerouted from Garner Lane to SR-99 and southbound drivers detour via Keefer Road; motorists should check Caltrans QuickMap for current conditions.  KRCR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, Tuesday, Jan. 6, CARD hosts a session from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Lakeside Pavilion as part of its Five-Year Master Plan to improve parks; additional sessions are scheduled on Jan. 8 at CARD Community Center and Jan. 14 at DeGarmo Park Shop + email submissions are welcomed.  KRCR
  • The DWR used Oroville Dam's main spillway for flood control releases on Monday; by 6 a.m., water flowed as the lake reached 70% capacity after rising 16 feet. They increased water releases to the Feather River to protect downstream areas.  Action News Now
