COMMUNITY NEWS

  • CARD will host the first of three community input sessions to shape a new five-year master plan for local parks from 2026 to 2031. Local residents are invited to share their ideas to help guide future park improvements.  Action News Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The National Weather Service forecasts minor flooding at the Sacramento River at Ord Ferry as water levels near 114 feet, with roads including Ord Ferry Road closed in Butte County - drivers should avoid flooded areas and watch for an update at 8:00 a.m.  Action News Now
  • The California Department of Water Resources crews inspected a trash dam in Big Chico Creek and determined it poses no immediate threat — they will return Tuesday to remove the trash and debris from the creek.  Action News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Assemblywoman Heather Hadwick honored late Congressman Doug LaMalfa — a dedicated advocate for Northern California’s rural communities — on Tuesday. She praised his service in agriculture, water, wildfire mitigation, forestry, and rural infrastructure as a lasting legacy to the region.  KRCR
  • Cal Fire Butte County reported six water rescues from December 15 to Jan. 6 after heavy flooding, and it remains ready to deploy teams—officials advised residents to check official sites for road closure details.  KRCR
  • Highway 99 between Garner Lane and Keefer Road reopened Tuesday morning—after a Monday evening shutdown due to flooding. Northbound traffic was diverted onto Garner Lane while southbound drivers took Keefer Road with no impacts now.  Action News Now
  • Rep. Doug LaMalfa died after emergency surgery at Enloe Health on Monday following a 911 call from his home in the 1st district. Gov. Newsom will call a special election within 14 days to replace him using the current district map.  North State Public Radio

SPORTS NEWS

  • Paradise High School has hired Kevin Sutherland as its new head football coach as the Bobcats aim for a turnaround next season. Sutherland, who stresses discipline & accountability, inherits a program that rallied after the 2018 Camp Fire and is set to face Lahaina-Luna in the Resiliency Bowl.  Action News Now
