  • Chico parents Deepika Tandon and Bill Silliman have purchased three bakeries in memory of their son, Shubhansh — who died 11 months ago — and have established a scholarship at CORE Butte Charter School. Their actions honor his passion for business while creating community opportunities.  Action News Now
  • Lauren Taylor Alvis of Yard Angels explained a new program on The Ridge that connects neighbors needing yard work help with volunteers — sign-ups are open for both helpers and those seeking assistance.  Action News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A memorial service for Congressman Doug LaMalfa will be held Saturday, Jan. 24 at the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds in Chico. The event starts at 12 p.m. — doors open at 10 a.m. — parking begins at 9:30 a.m. and tickets will be available by Jan. 22.  Action News Now

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Habitat for Humanity of Butte County received a 10,000-dollar grant from the North Valley Community Foundation to support the construction of eight new homes in Paradise that will help about 40 individuals secure affordable housing & benefit from volunteer labor on essential work.  KRCR

SPORTS NEWS

  • Two Chico Junior Panthers cheer teams earned national bids at a Stockton competition and will compete in Las Vegas (starting on the 23rd) at the JAMZ National Cheer Competition. About 19 athletes improved their performance using a new indoor space on West Seventh Street provided by the Salvation Army.  Action News Now
