The Chico Area Recreation & Park District updated its board on Jan.

22 on construction progress for the new Aquatic Center and Bike Park — a key step in advancing the planned projects. Officials said the projects are progressing as scheduled.

The Chico Art Center will celebrate its 70th Anniversary Gala on Friday, Feb.

27 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Lakeside Pavilion on California Park Drive. The gala will feature dinner, live music and art activities, and proceeds will support its programs and expansion.

Chico’s weekend features film, music and festival events.

Nearly 1,000 high school students attended the 5th annual Trades Day at the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds on Thursday to learn about construction careers with hands-on demos (from 25 local schools).

A new U.S. Forest Service fire station is under construction along Skyway to replace the one lost in the 2020 North Complex Fire; contractors have paved the driveway and will start vertical work soon, and the station (housing the Feather River Hotshot crew) is set to finish by winter.
