  • Friday morning, Feb. 13 at 4:30 a.m., five camels wandered onto Highway 70 near Concow in the Feather River Canyon after straying about five miles from home - neighbors and officials safely herded them back home.  Action News Now

  • Shubert's Ice Cream, a downtown family-run shop in business for 88 years, sees a surge as Valentine's Day brings special treats like chocolate-covered strawberries, even as eight businesses closed last year. City officials plan to present a downtown improvement plan and new entertainment zone in March to support small shops.  Action News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Chico State Professor Hyunjung Kim teaches system dynamics to help students learn how small fixes may lead to bigger issues and prepare them for real-world challenges. Her research includes a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers project and she will join the International System Dynamics Conference July 20–24 in Delft.  Chico State Today
  • At Mountain View Middle School college/career fair, Action News Now set up a table to explain job details to prospective college students, and a wind advisory — in effect from 10 a.m. Monday to 10 p.m. Wednesday in the Sacramento Valley — warns that gusts may dislodge loose objects.  Action News Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • PG&E is pre-positioning crews and resources ahead of a winter storm expected on Feb. 16 that will bring heavy rain, mountain snow, and gusts up to 60 mph to much of the region. Residents should monitor local updates for potential outages.  Action News Now

SPORTS NEWS

  • Chico-raised Donald Hall (29) earned his first Davis Cup win for El Salvador in a tournament held in Benin while battling intense heat and humidity. He credits his training at Chico Racquet Club and local support for shaping his career.  KRCR
  • Chico and Pleasant Valley high schools' ski and snowboard teams depend on volunteer parent drivers to transport 47 student athletes to competitions across Tahoe Basin and practice at Boreal Mountain Resort, while twice-weekly dry-land training (routine work) supports their competitive edge and recruitment of beginners through the Take 3 program.  Action News Now
