- ➤ Traffic fatalities in Chico dropped 79% from 14 in 2022 to three in 2025 — a decline credited to Measure H revenue funding that led to hiring four full-time traffic officers in 2023. Action News Now

- ➤ Chico State’s Black Student Union will host the Victory in Unity Celebration on Sunday, Feb. 22 from 1–5 p.m. at the Bell Memorial Union (featuring live music, a keynote, games and community dinner) to honor Black History Month and the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Chico State Today

- ➤ Chico Unified School District halted the rollout of AI features on its nearly $2 million Verkada system after teachers and parents voiced concerns at a Wednesday board meeting — the board set up a committee to review camera use and may ban facial recognition on campuses. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Snow fell unusually in Chico near the Action News Now station at 8:45 a.m. and briefly blanketed Butte College before rain washed it away; a freeze warning is in effect from midnight to 9 a.m. Friday to protect people, pets, and crops. Action News Now
- ➤ The Northern California Regional Land Trust finalized a conservation easement with Kittyhawk Orchards’ landowners along Keefer Slough, securing the 267-acre property’s agricultural use permanently.
