On February 21, the Community Lip Sync Challenge at The Big Room at Sierra Nevada raised over $24K for nonprofits — teams vied for top honors with the Oompa Loompas winning audience votes and Valley Contractors Workforce Foundation earning the funds trophy.

Heavy snow on Thursday prompted the volunteer Butte County Search and Rescue team to deploy its snow cat (with a four-track system and advanced navigation) to rescue three stranded people and provide urgent help for two others, urging mountain travelers to carry emergency communication devices.

On Sunday, Feb. 22 at 12 p.m., the Chico PD dedicated a memorial plaque at 118 Main Street to honor Officer Carleton Bruce— the department’s only fallen officer who was fatally shot in 1938 responding to a disturbance call at Joe's Tamale Parlor.
