  • Chico Marketplace hosts the 20th annual Cinderella’s Closet prom wear giveaway on Saturday, March 28 and Sunday, March 29 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Donations for dresses, suits, shoes or accessories are accepted until March 25 — local students can pick free prom attire.  Action News Now
  • Crews are nearing completion of the $1.5 million Hope Plaza project on the Skyway as they finish landscaping, install a permanent sign & add metallic trees to the memorial’s back wall, with plaques honoring the 85 fire victims to be added at the dedication set for April 11 in Paradise.  Action News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sophia Benitez, a Lt. Rawlins Merit Scholarship winner, will start her master's in animal science at New Mexico State University. She learned hands-on skills at Chico State's 800-acre University Farm Sheep Unit and aims to teach agriculture.  Chico State Today
  • Chico State hosted a collegiate sales competition on Mar. 5 where over 15 universities and hundreds of students pitched products in simulated business scenarios. The event was organized by the Seufferlein Western States Sales Program.  Action News Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Chico State is leading a $1.85M project to restore salmon habitat in Battle Creek. Crews will soon build a new perennial side channel and remove 1,700 ft of levee to help salmon rear and spawn as part of a broader state grant program.  Action News Now

  • Chico’s Architectural Review Board approved a nearly 15-foot Las Vegas–style sign for Casino Chico on Mar. 5 — the design exceeds city code by extending over the sidewalk and draws comparisons to vintage signs at Hotel Diamond and Thunderbird Lodge.  Action News Now

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A new affordable housing complex called Bar Triangle Apartments opened in Chico, providing 70 rent-restricted units for families with incomes between 30% and 60% of the area median income—featuring a community building and outdoor spaces, the project cost nearly $39 million and has a waiting list.  KRCR
