CRIME NEWS

  • Sansue Vang, a religious leader from Oroville accused of molesting a child on five counts and raping a woman on two counts last year—will be arraigned Thursday on additional criminal sexual abuse charges.  Action News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • Chico Elk’s Lodge will host the 2025 Spring Equinox Gala on March 22 to raise money for the Children's Choir of Chico. The event will have a country picnic dinner, a silent auction, drawings, dancing to music from Decades and singing by the choir and will run from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.  Action News Now
  • Chico State will host the free event '50 Years of Resilience: Honoring the Hmong Journey and Advancing Mental Health for Future Generations' on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at Bell Memorial Union (BMU 100) with seats available by registration. The daylong event brings together Hmong students, faculty, staff and local community members to learn about history, mental health and cultural preservation through keynote sessions and interactive workshops.  Chico State Today

  • Students at Pleasant Valley High School learned truck safety on Thursday during a demonstration organized by Butte County Public Health’s Safe Routes to School Program and the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute’s Sharing the Road initiative—featuring a specially equipped semi-truck and California Highway Patrol officers who explained blind spots and safe driving tips.  KRCR
  • Chico High volleyball players filed a formal complaint on March 10 against head coach Chas Konopka for making comments they say hurt their trust and safety on the team. The district received the complaint and will start an investigation—while Konopka said he will follow the school’s process to hear all sides.  Action News Now

  • Renowned regenerative rancher Alejandro Carrillo will speak at Chico State’s California Soil Health Field Days on March 20—21, where he will show how donkeys, dung beetles and electric fencing restore grasslands and improve cattle management.
