  • CARD’s new aquatic center on Garner Lane is progressing with two of its three pools installed and solar panels planned to cut energy costs by 70%; the facility will open in fall and recruit additional staff (including lifeguard positions).  KRCR

CULTURE NEWS

  • Three artists will compete for a $500 prize in a mural contest along Orange Street during a weekend festival hosted by Maker Radio. Festivalgoers can vote by scanning a QR code at the event, which runs Friday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 10 p.m.—local art fans are set to enjoy a vibrant display.  Action News Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Soil Health Field Days happened at Chico State's University Farm yesterday and showed new ways to improve soil and farming. Action News Now reporter Emilio Del Carpio said the event—highlighting regenerative agriculture—could shape future farming approaches.  Action News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Chico Police Department is accepting applications for its paid academy program starting in June, with trainees earning a salary and having training costs covered. Applicants must apply by March 23 to join a team focused on community service.  KRCR

HEALTH NEWS

  • Today, the California Poison Control System (CPCS) and Fresno Chaffee Zoo host Rattlesnake Awareness Day in Chico to teach safe practices for encountering rattlesnakes and advise hikers to wear high ankle boots on local trails.   • Jeff Jordan was inducted into the California Community Colleges Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame on March 14 for his long-term contributions to Butte College athletics + education.  Action News Now
