Good morning, Chico. Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 20th of March.

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local artists are painting murals ahead of Saturday's Maker's Muse Street Fair as officials close Orange Street between 6th and 7th from noon to 10 p.m. Organizers expect about 1,000 people to attend the fair — a detail that highlights the event's scale.  Action News Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • After the Park Fire, the Butte County Resource Conservation District launched the Recharge Enhancement Pilot Project to slow erosion in Big Chico Creek Watershed by installing over 1,500 rock weirs to slow and spread water flows. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The federal spending bill passed last weekend does not include funding from the Secure Rural Schools Act — leaving many North State school districts with budget shortfalls. Congressman LaMalfa said his office is working with House leaders to pass a reauthorization bill — which would restore the lost funds.  North State Public Radio
  • Chico City Council called a special meeting today at 11 a.m. at the Council Chamber (Main Street) to plan ways to improve city operations. Residents may share comments and watch the meeting live on cable (channel 11).  Action News Now
  • Chico State’s North State Planning and Development Collective launched a free digital dashboard that gives up-to-date data on economy, demography, social, environment and industry indicators for 12 counties. University staff and regional leaders will use the interactive tool to replace static printed profiles and drive data-based decisions—sourcing information from agencies such as the U.S. Census Bureau.  KRCR
  • Today, the Butte County Association of Governments unveiled a plan to improve B-Line bus services with route changes such as increased frequency on Route 5 and a new Paradise Transit Center on Birch Street. The improvements will extend over the next 18 to 24 months and include a passenger portal for paratransit in late spring as well as zero-emissions buses and a potential new route from Chico to Sacramento in 2026 — efforts to update transit across the county.  KRCR
