EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Chico State was named a Top Producing Institution of Gilman Scholars for 2001–2025 by the U.S. Department of State’s scholarship program, highlighting its strong support for study abroad for students with financial need. - ➤ Chico schools are adding TK classrooms under a state program for kids turning 4 by Sept. 1. Marigold Elementary will open a new building with 2 classrooms and a playground (with concrete safety walls) in August while Little Chico Creek and Emma Wilson schools finish classrooms in May and July. - ➤ Chico High students represented Butte County at the California Mock Trial in Oakland on March 20 and 21, winning the county contest against 34 teams. They earned individual honors (including awards for outstanding prosecution and pretrial attorney) under the guidance of teacher Casey Van Masis and local attorneys. Action News Now

- ➤ Former Wildcat Casey Smyth is rebuilding his active life through therapy and local athletic roles after surviving a catastrophic infection that cost him his hands and feet.
