CULTURE NEWS

  • Orland hosts The Wall That Heals from March 25 until March 29 at 250 Roosevelt Avenue. The three-quarter scale Vietnam Veterans Memorial replica features ceremonies, tours & modern lighting, with over 50 volunteers assembling 140 panels to honor veterans.  KRCR

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Chico High School students competed at California Mock Trial state finals in Oakland after winning Butte County’s competition. The team argued People v. Fromholz and earned honors — with Annalisa Pedrinazzi, Clare Lynch, and Lauren Loomba recognized for standout roles.  KRCR
  • Chico State has been named a Top Producing Institution of Gilman Scholars (2001-2025) by the U.S. Department of State, acknowledging its support for study abroad among students with limited means. Since 2012, 144 students have gained transformative international experiences through Gilman scholarships.  Chico State Today
  • Chico State canceled the campus cleanup event scheduled for March 31 due to allegations of abuse against the late farm labor leader (safety concerns prompted the cancellation) and will offer volunteer opportunities in April instead.   • A Chico preschool changed its business model after transitional kindergarten reduced enrollment, school officials said. The updated plan will offer tailored programs for preschoolers — local leaders believe the adjustment will better support families.  Action News Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Southern Magnolia tree at Bidwell Mansion State Historic Park was named a State Champion by the California Big Trees program. It measured 92 feet tall, had a trunk of 226 inches and a 65-foot crown spread (nominated by local volunteer Richie Bamlet in 2026).  KRCR

  • On Tuesday morning, crews cleared more than a dozen people camping near the Chico Municipal Center.  Action News Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • Vitalant hosts blood donation drives this April across Northern California, including drives in Chico at Tri Counties Bank and the city bloodmobile. Donors from April 6 to 30 will be entered to win one of two $10,000 prepaid gift cards (supporting urgent type O donations) while helping save lives.  Action News Now
  • Yesterday, Action News Now anchor Hayley Watts interviewed Dr. Thomas Guerrero at Valor Oncology in Chico about using radiation therapy to ease symptoms of osteoarthritis and plantar fasciitis (recorded for Wellness Wednesday).  Action News Now
