COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Chico Area Recreation and Park District will update on progress at the Aquatic Center on Garner Lane today, highlighting solar panels installation, visible work on Pools A and B, and plans to pour a concrete slab for Pool C by month-end.  Action News Now
  • Chico State agriculture professor Dr. Kasey Deatley hosted the Ranching with Wolves event at Chico State Farm tonight — local beef producers and students heard from rancher Paul Roen and Sheriff Michael Fisher about managing a rising wolf population while staying within state and federal law.  Action News Now
  • The Thursday Night Market returns downtown with over 100 new vendors, an expanded footprint on Main Street, and monthly themed expos from April 9 to Sept. 24. New additions include kids’ games and cooling stations — creating a more family-friendly experience.  Action News Now
  • A magnolia tree at Bidwell Mansion was named a state champion and One Mile’s restrooms reopened after modification on Thursday, Mar. 26. Today, the Traveling Vietnam Wall hosts its welcoming ceremony in Orland.  Action News Now

  • A vibrant mixed media art installation by Colorado-based artist David Ocelotl Garcia has been installed along the walkway between Bell Memorial Union and Trinity Commons, showcasing materials like aluminum and mosaic glass to honor diverse voices and celebrate free speech and expression.  Chico State Today
  • Chico residents will enjoy a busy weekend with comedy at Bidwell Perk (Friday), live drag at Lassen Traditional Cidery, theatre at Ride the Cyclone on the Ridge, metal and bluegrass shows, plus a nursery crawl and North State Symphony finale.  North State Public Radio

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A historic 92-foot magnolia on the Bidwell Mansion grounds has been named the largest southern magnolia in the state by the Cal Poly Urban Forest Ecosystems Institute — planted in 1885 by Chico founder John Bidwell, the tree was damaged in the 2024 mansion fire but remains in good shape.  Action News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Homeowners whose homes suffered fire, storm, or earthquake damage between January 2023 and early 2025 may apply for the CalAssist Mortgage Fund, which now raises income limits in Butte County from $127,000 to $255,000 & provides up to 12 months of mortgage payments not exceeding $100,000 to help 3,200 applicants.  KRCR
