COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A No Kings demonstration is set to take place today at West 10th Avenue and The Esplanade in Chico at 11 a.m.+ Fifteen local events are planned across the region, inviting community participation in public expression.  North State Public Radio
  • Cinderella's Closet is hosting a free pop-up shop for prom attire at Chico Marketplace across from American Eagle this weekend; the event provides dresses, shoes, and tuxedos and runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. (both Saturday and Sunday).  Action News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • More than sixty students (from public, private, and charter schools) competed in the annual Butte County Spelling Bee Championship on Friday morning in Oroville, as reported by Action News Now.  Action News Now
  • Consuelo Báez Vega, a first-generation student at Chico State, is earning her master’s in regenerative agriculture while studying winter cover crops in rice fields across three counties (her merit award eases financial burdens).  Chico State Today
  • Bruno Lopez is recognized as Scholar Athlete of the Month for his 3.8 GPA, love for history, and early start in baseball. He began playing at age 5 — inspired by his dad — and now continues to excel both in academics and on the field.  Action News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Newsom signed a law that renames Cesar Chavez Day to Farmworkers Day, a change that will alter campus traditions at Chico State such as Cats in the Community — officials explained.  Action News Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • Butte Public Health reminds Chico e-bike, e-moto, and e-scooter riders to follow safety rules as use increases, requiring helmets for young riders and Class 3 e-bike users. The guidelines restrict e-moto riding to private property and designated trails, with violations resulting in impoundments and tickets (effective Jan. 1).  KRCR

  • Chico’s first-ever bike park near Humboldt Road is nearly finished + officials expect the facility to open in coming weeks.  Action News Now
