BUSINESS NEWS

  • Klean Kanteen, a small business in Chico that makes reusable drinkware, is under financial strain from a 20% tariff on imports from China and a 25% tariff on stainless steel — the company has already laid off staff and now faces an extra 25% tariff starting on April 2 that may worsen its cash flow.  Action News Now

CRIME NEWS

  • On March 26th, law enforcement served 20 search warrants in Yuba, Tehama, Butte, and Sutter counties to disrupt a drug trafficking ring operating hidden labs and selling drugs while seizing narcotics, firearms, and cash—an officer was killed in Olivehurst after being ambushed.  Action News Now
  • Fire investigators arrested 37-year-old Zachary Daniel Taylor on felony arson charges after he intentionally set a fire at 8:20 p.m. on Feb. 21 that damaged part of a home on Oro Bangor Highway in Butte County—officers also arrested 66-year-old Kirk Addington for possessing stolen property on March 26.  Action News Now

  • Decorated with medals and ribbons, a group of Vietnam veterans gathered to share their memories of service — both moments of pride and pain — at a local event in Chico. A Vietnam Wall replica will be on display at the Chico Elks Lodge from June 5th through June 9th to honor their sacrifices.  Action News Now

  • The Chico Police Department declared a glass ban that started Friday at 6 p.m. for downtown and south Chico State campus areas to reduce street litter during Cesar Chavez weekend — the ban will end Monday at 6 p.m.  Action News Now
  • Chico Fire Department is asking for a new engine and six more firefighters to meet rising emergency needs amid an 81% jump in population. The proposal—expected to cost over $1 million from current resources—awaits a decision by city officials.  Action News Now
