  • The Valley Oak Children's Service announced on Monday that the annual Children's Faire will be held in Downtown Chico City Plaza from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 5—families can enjoy live entertainment, face painting, and dance performances while connecting with local community services.  Action News Now
  • Father’s House Restoration Ministries launched a Community Land Trust to revitalize the area by collaborating with residents, investors, institutions and real estate developers to increase affordable homeownership opportunities.  Action News Now

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Collier Hardware — the first hardware store in downtown Chico, opened in 1871 and family-owned for over 50 years — closed its doors for good after owner Matt Lucena said the rise of e-commerce hurt business downtown in October.  Action News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Over winter break, 10 construction management and civil engineering students led by Professor Chris Souder visited Santiago’s metro construction sites and the Chacao Channel bridge in southern Chile to earn course credit while learning international construction methods—an inaugural opportunity for the College of ECC. The program gave the students first-hand experience with large-scale projects and new construction techniques.  Chico State Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Caltrans is beginning a $37 million project along Highway 32 in Chico to install new traffic lights at busy intersections and upgrade pavement, drainage and pedestrian access — work that may include temporary traffic control measures — with traffic signal work starting today. Pavement rehabilitation is scheduled to begin in Fall.  Action News Now
  • Today, the City of Chico is celebrating two years of Measure H as the one percent sales tax has raised more than $54 million for road improvements and public safety. City officials said funds are now supporting projects set to complete in 2025 and further upgrades planned for 2026—ensuring ongoing updates to local infrastructure.  Action News Now
  • On Mar 31, the Chico Police Department held its annual meeting to present its military equipment inventory (explaining why the equipment is needed in the community).  Action News Now
  • Chico Planning Commission will review use permits and architectural plans for a new Chick-Fil-A restaurant on April 3 in the field between Walmart and Target near Forest Avenue and Baney Lane. The 4,667-square-foot project will feature a dual drive-through and 82 parking spaces (including 19 compact and 17 electric vehicle stalls) with a secondary entrance from Baney Lane (sharing access with adjacent sites).  Action News Now
