- ➤ The Salvation Army will host a Family Color Fun Run & 5K at Bidwell Park on Saturday, May 9 at 9 a.m. (The event will take place rain or shine and offers an untimed 5K and a 1.25-mile Color Trot with 6 color stations, a DJ at the start, photo opportunities, food trucks, and finish line games.) - ➤ Habitat for Humanity of Butte County will host its fifth annual Women Build fundraiser in Paradise on May 1-2, with volunteers working alongside future homeowners under professional guidance & addressing local housing challenges. - ➤ Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 582 is creating RC Brown Veterans Garden on a 3/4-acre plot donated by Richard Brown's daughter after he died in the 2018 Camp Fire. The garden will donate its vegetable harvest to local charities and veterans and open in May. Action News Now
- ➤ The North Valley Community Foundation distributed over $90K in food insecurity relief grants to organizations to provide grab-and-go meals during spring break. A $1K grant awarded to the Breaktime Bites to Fuel Our Future program will help feed 200 students as community groups are urged to apply soon. Action News Now
- ➤ Tractor Supply in Chico will host a free Plant-A-Seed event on Saturday, April 18 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 2475 Doctor Martin Luther King Junior Parkway, where young gardeners can plant a Perennial Butterfly Garden and learn basic gardening skills — supplies are limited. Action News Now

- ➤ Chico officials weighed a formal parklet program during a city council meeting on April 7 to boost downtown activity — building on temporary outdoor spaces from the pandemic. The staff report said the program would take 6 to 9 months to develop as cost and design challenges are addressed. KRCR
- ➤ The Chico Chamber of Commerce is urging City Council to delay a proposed sewer rate hike that would increase bills by 180% in the first year & potentially hurt local business. The chamber will present its alternative rate plan Tuesday at 6 p.m. Action News Now
- ➤ A federally funded project began clearing hazardous vegetation along the Skyway between Magalia and Stirling City to improve evacuation safety ahead of fire season — work is set to be completed by May. Local officials support the project, which is backed by FEMA funding. North State Public Radio
