- ➤ Soroptimist International of Chico will host a charity golf tournament on Monday, May 12 at Canyon Oaks Country Club in Chico—proceeds will fund programs that support women, girls and community services. Action News Now
- ➤ The Honey Run Covered Bridge in Butte Creek Canyon will open to the public on June 1 with its 60th annual pancake breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m.—rebuilt in January after it burned in the Camp Fire in 2018, the bridge is managed by the Honey Run Covered Bridge Association that raised nearly $5 million in donations. - ➤ A federal appeals court reversed a judge’s dismissal of Aurora Regino’s lawsuit against Chico Unified School District after the district allowed teachers to use her child’s new name and pronouns without asking her— the case will now go back to a lower court so that her claim can move forward. - ➤ Professor Lee Altier said solar panels installed at Chico State University Farm produced electricity that will return to the university and provide the light needed for crops. Action News Now
- ➤ Chico State cross-country runner Hannah Wirth, who holds a 3.94 GPA, runs 70 miles a week while researching partner violence and interning at Victim Services to help survivors. She will graduate in May and join the MSW program in summer — her work in social justice and strong drive point to a promising career in social work — as she builds on her success on and off the track. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City of Chico said hundreds of goats will begin grazing in the Lindo Channel between Manzanita Avenue and Highway 99 on April 10 to reduce fire fuel loads along nearby properties. The grazing project will last two to three weeks and safety measures such as electric fencing, warning signs and guard dogs will be in place—visitors are asked to stay out of closed areas. - ➤ The Franchise Tax Board reminds Californians that April 15 is the deadline to file and pay 2024 taxes and warns that missing it can lead to penalties—many qualifying for credits like the California Earned Income Tax Credit and the Young Child Tax Credit.
