COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A local nonprofit at the Lifespan Center on Cohasset Rd, offering play-based therapy for children with autism, is hosting Chico Walks for Autism this Saturday at Lower Bidwell Park. Families can register on-site at 8 a.m. and join the 9 a.m. walk.  Action News Now
  • Butte County Sheriff's Search and Rescue worked through the night with CAL FIRE support to clear a dense, wooded area — using drones, chainsaws, and teamwork to safely extract a trapped individual.  Action News Now
  • Chico hosts several community events this weekend including Banff Mountain Film Festival at Chico State Laxson Auditorium (today through Saturday), Thursday Night Market downtown from April 9 to Sept, and Chico Kite Day at Community Park on Sunday, April 12 with kite giveaways.  North State Public Radio

  • Sierra Nevada Brewing Company, founded in Chico in 1980, is now the nation’s third-largest craft brewery thanks to its flagship Pale Ale and innovative use of cascade hops. The brewery will introduce summer packaging featuring national parks as part of its longstanding commitment to conservation efforts.  KRCR

  • Union Pacific's legendary Big Boy #4014 steamed into Oroville on Thursday afternoon, delighting hundreds in attendance + sparking excitement among local train enthusiasts.  Action News Now
  • The Thursday Night Market expanded onto Main Street — offering live music, local vendors, and a monthly interactive expo on Health and Wellness. The event runs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursdays through September 24.  Action News Now
  • Pleasant Valley High School students will stage ABBA's Mamma Mia! this weekend at the Center for the Arts — featuring 29 performers and over 40 crew members — with shows on Friday and Saturday at 6 p.m. and a Sunday matinee at 1 p.m. Tickets cost $20 at the door.  Action News Now

  • Butte College will honor two alumni for community service at its Spring Gala Saturday, April 25 at 5:30 p.m. at Manzanita Place. The Butte College Foundation hosts the event to fund student programs and honor CAL FIRE Assistant Chief Carlos Alcantar and Alfred Koala (founder of Feeding Nations through Education).  Action News Now
  • Chase Wilson—a first-year mathematics graduate student who transferred back from San Francisco State for a supportive academic environment—found success at Chico State with engaging mentorship and recently earned the prestigious Lt. Robert Merton Rawlins Merit Award.  Chico State Today
  • Chico State’s AMA chapter broke its record in Chicago by attaining a Top 5 ranking, while the Computer Science Department will receive national cybersecurity recognition on April 28 in Pittsburgh. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Upper Park Road at Bidwell Park will close to vehicles at parking lot E on weekdays starting Monday for the Iron Canyon Fish Passage Project. CalTrout leads the effort to restore 8.5 miles of cold-water habitat for threatened Chinook salmon and steelhead and advises pedestrians to use alternate trails.  Action News Now
