- ➤ Chico's Thursday Night Market opened last night with over 100 vendors selling produce, crafts, clothing, and jewelry on downtown streets while some roads were closed for setup. The market will run every Thursday until September 25 (setup is from 5:15 p.m. to 6 p.m., vehicle entry allowed until 5:30 p.m., and unauthorized vehicles required to leave by 5:45 p.m.). - ➤ A candlelight vigil will be held today at Chico State University on the Kendall Lawn at 7:30 p.m. to honor 21-year-old Athena Passidakis—who was killed in a murder-suicide by her ex-boyfriend Alvin Wilson—while another vigil takes place today at Diestelhorst Bridge in Redding. KRCR
- ➤ More than 100 law enforcement agencies held a memorial in Wheatland on Tuesday to honor fallen Marysville officer Osmar Rodarte who was killed on March 26 while serving a search warrant and joined by the Butte County Sheriff's Office as the public ceremony was followed by a private family gathering (Rodarte was a 27-year-old husband, father and U.S. Army veteran). - ➤ On Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the 2025 California State Yo-Yo Contest will be held at Chico City Plaza and will feature local and state yo-yo players showing off their skills. Hosted by the National Yo-Yo Museum, the event is free and will let visitors enjoy local shops and eateries—adding to a festive day. Action News Now

- ➤ Chico State will host AI Immersion Day on April 15 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Selvester’s 100—students, faculty and staff will learn how generative AI can shape higher education and the workforce through keynotes and breakout sessions. Chico State Today
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Organized by nonprofit Bridging the Gap, the 17th annual Walk-4-Water event will begin at 8:30 a.m. this Saturday at the One-Mile Recreation Area in Bidwell Park, where participants will carry empty buckets—simulating the arduous journey for safe water in rural Uganda. Proceeds will fund wells and water filters for Ugandan villages. Action News Now

- ➤ Measure H, a voter-approved one-cent tax increase, is funding the Butte County Sheriff's Office to rehire deputy sheriffs, correction deputies and dispatchers lost due to budget cuts — the funds also supported new sheriff vehicles, computers and weapons purchased in November. The department is working to fill around 90 open positions and to advance a jail expansion project — steps aimed at boosting public safety. KRCR
