COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Terrain Park Adventure Center and Your Local Marketplace will host a pop-up market on Sunday, April 26 (from noon to 3 p.m.) at the Climbing Gym’s back parking lot, offering local vendors, live music, and activity zones. A $10 play pass provides access with a free bounce house for kids.  Action News Now
  • Butte Humane Society hosts Woofstock on April 18 at the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds Pavilion (2357 Fair Street) from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The fundraiser will feature local bands, a vendor marketplace and activities for families and dogs while proceeds support food, medical care and shelter for animals.  Action News Now
  • Voting opened on Apr. 13 for the Pooch Playoffs in Butte County where 32 pets compete to raise money for the Northwest SPCA — the round ends tomorrow and the Sweet 16 starts on Wednesday.  Action News Now

  • J.T. Woodhouse & The Leaves of Grass will perform Modern Poetry at the Bidwell Bowl Amphitheater at noon on Apr. 17 as part of the English Department’s Writer’s Voice series. The acoustic project blends classic poems with folk and bluegrass influences and features contributions from local students, faculty, and alumni.  Chico State Today

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Esmeralda Villatoro (a Chico State double major in psychology and Spanish) was recognized on April 1 for her academic achievement and community leadership in bilingual mental health support. She plans to advance her career in forensic psychology to help underrepresented communities.  Chico State Today
  • Students and community members gathered at Simpson University on Monday morning to discuss money, purpose and personal values with John Coleman — Co-CEO of Sovereign's Capital and a Harvard Business Review writer. The event connected personal growth with financial insight.  Action News Now
  • Former Chico State president Paul J. Zingg died on April 9 at age 80; he served as president from 2004 to 2016 (championed sustainability, student diversity, and campus advancements) and the university will lower its flag in his honor on April 16.  Action News Now

  • The 42nd Annual Chico Home and Garden Show will run Saturday, Apr. 18 and Sunday, Apr. 19 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds — the largest event of its kind in Northern California with five halls, outdoor displays, and local demos, with $8 admission.  Action News Now
