CRIME NEWS

  • Thompson Fire arson suspect Spencer Grant Anderson appeared in Butte County Superior Court on Wednesday with his new attorney Larry Pilgrim—who asked to set the jury trial for August 25 and applied for a 10-day mental health diversion—while noting no new evidence has come to light.  KRCR
  • Curtis Ector Morales, 43, from Hurleton was arraigned on felony murder charges in Butte County after allegedly fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend Dakota Morningstar on April 13 in Oroville—she had returned to his property to collect her personal belongings.  KRCR
  • Chico Police arrested 35-year-old Christian Roberts on attempted murder charges after he stabbed a man in the chest at Depot Park early Wednesday, and officers took the victim to a local hospital for surgery while Roberts was booked on an outstanding CDCR parole warrant.  Action News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • Chico will host free public art walking tours led by arts advocate Monica McDaniel, starting with a tour on Saturday, May 4 at 10 a.m. at the ‘Our Hands’ sculpture near City Hall—six tours will be held through September to showcase more than two dozen pieces of public art downtown.  Action News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A judge denied Chico’s motion to exit the Warren Settlement so the city must abide by its terms until 2027. City officials are considering options like an appeal while public works crews continue enforcement after clearing City Plaza—some people have already returned.  Action News Now
  • The Pacific Fishery Management Council allowed limited recreational salmon fishing on Apr 16 for the first time in three years + recommended closing commercial salmon fisheries for the third straight year.  Action News Now
