  • Kite Day returned to Community Park this afternoon and drew hundreds, with families enjoying live band performances, bounce houses, and meeting local radio personalities while organizers said the turnout was one of the biggest ever.  Action News Now
  • On Apr. 20, Sally was crowned ulti-mutt champion at Butte County's Pooch Playoffs at the Union Restaurant in Oroville after 13,000 votes confirmed her win over 31 entrants. Her prize included a $100 gift certificate and a trophy.  Action News Now
  • Growing Healthy Children is hosting its 20th annual run and walk event at Bidwell Park on April 25 from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Participants can choose a family 1-mile walk or a 5K run starting at 8:30 a.m.—early registrants receive a t-shirt featuring the winning art design.  Action News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • Chico-based artist MJ Ortiz (known as BeaarBox) released two albums in the past year that include soulful electronic sounds in his 8-minute track 'Recent Memory.' He connects with the local music scene through DJ collective Modern Girl Media and rock-alt group Phantom Falls.  North State Public Radio
  • Student Michelle Baltazar found a passion for glassblowing in an ARTS 101 class at Chico State and now mentors her peers as treasurer for the Glass Art Student Association; she blends her Guatemalan heritage + photography background to create work that unites the campus community.  Chico State Today

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Durham High School's football stadium will soon have new grandstands seating up to 750+ visitors along with extra bleachers, a press box and shade structures as part of the Coliseum Project. Work on the upgrades continues in Durham.  Action News Now

  • Sierra Nevada Brewing released its limited-edition Hop Forward Hoppy Ale on Apr. 20 and will host an Earth Day celebration tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at its East 20th Street facility, featuring a plant sale and unveiling its 2026 Hop Forward Impact Report + key sustainability achievements.  Action News Now
  • The Butte Fire Safe Council has begun a pile burning project today in Forest Ranch located in Big Chico Creek Canyon; crews will burn 97-1/2 acres in increments of 3 to 5 acres.  Action News Now

  • Highway 99 drivers in Tehama County will face delays as a road rehabilitation project will begin soon, imposing 24-hour traffic control on the stretch from southern Los Molinos to the Tehama-Butte County line.  Action News Now

  • A local report shows that mixed martial arts is becoming a popular alternative for youth who want a nontraditional sport option in Chico. Reporter Raishaud Pinkney explains that MMA programs offer structured training (and fun challenges) in place of team sports.  Action News Now
