The remains of Private James 'Stanley' Mitchell, a World War II soldier who died in a death camp in the Philippines in 1943, are returning home today.

They will arrive at Sacramento Airport at 8:55 a.m. today—escorted through Orland and Hamilton City to Brusie Funeral Home in Chico—as organizers invite the community to honor him with a memorial service planned for May 3 in Hamilton City.

Chico police said a crash occurred on East Avenue when a vehicle driver pulled out in front of a motorcycle traveling eastbound— the motorcyclist was taken to a hospital with moderate injuries and eastbound lanes were closed for about 30 minutes— as emergency crews cleared the scene.

The 11th annual Wildflower Music Festival will take place on May 10th from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at 20th Street Park in Chico—raising funds for the Wildflower Open Classroom public charter school on Cohasset Road.
