CRIME NEWS

  • The Chico Police Department has increased traffic law enforcement by pulling over drivers for speeding, cell phone use, and running red lights in trouble spots—officers using radar and lidar issued over 2,000 citations since June and targeted areas such as 8th and 9th Streets from Highway 32 to Walnut, East Avenue, and Nord Avenue after a driver crashed a parked car at over 100 mph.  Action News Now
  • A routine traffic stop in Oroville on April 16 led officers to arrest an intoxicated driver with a suspended license after they found a ghost gun, another stolen pistol and a stash of drugs in his vehicle— the driver now faces charges for DUI and multiple firearm and drug offenses.  KRCR
  • The suspect in the Gidley High School stabbing case appeared in court earlier this month & the judge ordered a psychological exam with the suspect expected to enter a plea soon.  Action News Now

  • Chico thrift stores may see more customers if tariffs drive up the prices of new goods—store owners say higher retail costs are encouraging a wide range of shoppers to buy second-hand items. Terri Blessing of Show Love Thrift Store reports that rising prices are attracting budget shoppers and antique dealers alike—indicating a potential boost for local resale business.  Action News Now

  • Chico State seniors celebrated a Senior Sendoff on Wednesday at Trinity Lawn by signing a Class of 2025 banner and enjoying games and music. Spirit Week will continue until April 26 with additional campus events planned.  KRCR
  • The Butte College Spring 2025 Fashion Show will take place on May 1 at 7 p.m. at the Arts Theater on the main campus where student designers will show their work + local Chico and Oroville retailers will display their apparel and shoes.  Action News Now

  • The Butte Environmental Council will host its 36th annual Endangered Species Faire in Chico on Saturday, April 26 at 10 a.m.—this free event will include interactive booths, animal demonstrations, local art and craft vendors, live t-shirt printing, food trucks, and music while partnering with local schools, nonprofits and community groups to boost environmental education.  Action News Now
