- ➤ Beloved education professor David Teja, a dedicated special education advocate who taught for 22 years, passed away on April 18 and inspired many students across the North State. The University flag will be lowered today (April 29) to honor his legacy and he is survived by his wife, children and six grandchildren. Chico State Today
- ➤ Julian Lacombe has energized students at CARD since 2022 with art and fantasy classes that mix storytelling with role-playing games. His summer camps featuring creative writing and fantasy world building are popular, and he is expanding his Dungeons & Dragons sessions for adults at Penny Ranch Art Studio — a move that draws interest from both new and experienced artists. - ➤ Officials at Pleasant Valley High and Chico Unified School District began rebuilding after a fire on April 25 damaged classroom D — which housed the art department and special needs programs and left no injuries — and they are moving classes and accepting donations for renovations before summer break. - ➤ Caltrans will break ground on a $30 million project that will improve pavement, drainage, and access for pedestrians and cyclists on Highway 99 in Gridley on May 1 at 1 p.m. Officials say the work will modernize the corridor at the Moose Lodge parking lot (Gridley). Action News Now
- ➤ Butte County's Emergency Evacuation Plan won the Vernon Deines Award from the American Planning Association's Small Town Rural Planning Division for strong work in wildfire planning.
