  • Chico songwriter Lorna Such will perform at the Sierra Nevada Big Room on May 1 with an eight-piece ensemble blending new originals & covers. Sacramento’s Lab Rats will open the show with a mix of jazz, soul & funk to complement her sound.  North State Public Radio
  • Paradise Chocolate Fest returns Saturday, May 9, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Terry Ashe Park; the event celebrates over two decades of community fun with chocolate treats, interactive exhibits, a family run/walk, carnival games and live music (with a prize for the first 200 guests wearing festive hats).  Action News Now

  • Chico State professor Jianliang Hao has applied real-world research to teach supply chain management, linking everyday challenges to student learning.   • Chico State professor Mina Hejazi received Professional Achievement Honors for her work on food safety and global trade — her research engages students in exploring how rules shape food from farms to consumers.  Chico State Today
  • Professor Kasey DeAtley from Chico State was selected for Class 52 of the California Agricultural Leadership Program and named Senate District 1 Woman of the Year for 2025 as she led a cow composting law and secured research grants, mentoring students while strengthening local agriculture + industry ties.  Chico State Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • CAL FIRE announced new rules requiring online permits for dooryard burning starting at 8 a.m. on May 1 in Shasta, Trinity, Tehama, Glenn, and Butte counties — residents must follow burn day rules and take safety measures to reduce fire risks.  Action News Now
  • The City of Chico will enforce anti-camping ordinances on May 5 at three locations — Big Chico Creek from Cherry Street to Rose Avenue, Little Chico Creek from Pine to Pomona, and the bike path between West Sacramento and West Lindo — after verifying counts with Legal Services.  Action News Now
  • Alcohol may soon be served at special events at Chico Creek Nature Center in lower Bidwell Park after the Bidwell Park and Playground Commission unanimously voted Monday night to change the rules — the request now heads to City Council for final approval.  Action News Now
  • Chico will start charging parking fees at Upper Bidwell Park this summer — fees will be $2 a day or $25 per year and can be paid via a kiosk or app.  Action News Now
