CRIME NEWS

  • A Butte County judge declared Gridley man Hugo Cardenas not guilty by reason of insanity after he admitted to killing his mother on March 25 by stabbing her 40 times because he believed she was an impostor of the devil during a mental health crisis & he will face a placement hearing on May 25 to be committed to a secure state hospital while awaiting a jury trial to assess his sanity.  KRCR

  • The Neal Road Waste Facility in Butte County plans to upgrade its site with a new scale house and landfill expansion—aimed at cutting wait times and securing long-term waste management benefits. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • In a 10 to 4 vote on Wednesday night, the California State Assembly Utilities & Energy Committee passed an amended AB 942 that will reduce net energy metering credits from a 20-year to a 10-year compensation period for solar customers who installed panels before April, as Pacific Gas & Electric said the bill would lower energy bills while critics warned it breaks contracts & could lower home values.  Action News Now
