  • Caper Acres is upgrading its fence for better safety and adding storybook-themed signs that high school students are designing with help from the Chico Sunrise Rotary Club. The park will install all 10 custom pieces by summer (the Robin Hood sign is already complete) to support local community efforts.  Action News Now
  • A Chico veteran is cleaning up graffiti in a local neighborhood today, recognized by morning reporter Raishaud Pinkney for his community service + his effort aims to improve public spaces and inspire local pride.  Action News Now
  • Work crews began installing a new and sturdier perimeter fence at Bidwell Park this week to replace the old chain-link barrier as part of efforts to improve safety (opened in 1970).  Action News Now
  • The Chico Area Recreation and Park District named Tennis Court One at Community Park after longtime coach Jerry Brayton on April 30, 2026 to honor his 24-year legacy of teaching tennis every day. CARD officials hope the tribute will inspire community members to continue enjoying the game.  KRCR

  • Chico hosts a vibrant arts weekend with theater, live music, and festivals. The Chico Theater Company plays 'Once Upon A Mattress' through May 17, Paradise Brew Werks offers Thursday blues, and the Spring Fae Festival provides family fun at Patrick Ranch Museum on Sunday, May 31 (free entry).  North State Public Radio

  • Chico State's University Farm Store is hosting a plant sale Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 311 Nicholas C Schouten Lane, offering fresh summer vegetables, herbs, and plants along with items from the Meats Lab + Chico State Organic Cheddar.  Action News Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Yesterday, the state rolled back invasive mussel restrictions at Lake Oroville so boaters can access the lake 24 hours a day without inspections or decontamination measures. New research showed a lower risk of golden mussels due to the lake's deeper, colder water conditions.  Action News Now
  • According to the California Department of Fish + Wildlife, wolf packs now number 12 statewide with about 90 animals. Four new packs have been identified recently in Northern California and the agency reported 21 confirmed livestock attacks from January to March while compensation applications for losses are being processed.  Action News Now

  • A Butte County couple says county officials wrongly seized their horses and euthanized their daughter’s therapy horse Amber after friendly visits began in September 2025 — the family is now fighting to recover the three remaining horses as the case remains under investigation along Oro Bangor Highway.  Action News Now
