- ➤ On May 3, Chico’s Butte County Library launched its state-funded Zip Books program (used by about 500 residents who ordered over 600 books) that sent titles not in the collection directly to patrons’ homes. The library spent nearly all its grant funds and will apply for new state funding next year (to keep the service running). North State Public Radio

- ➤ On May 1, a bear entered a Forest Ranch family's car and stayed trapped for 2.5 hours, causing extensive damage before the owner’s husband freed it by shooting the windshield with a pellet gun—leaving the car a total loss and inspiring a GoFundMe campaign for a replacement vehicle. - ➤ The CHP issued a Feather Alert for Agustin Vega, a 25-year-old missing man described as 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing 155 pounds, who may be driving a silver 2009 Honda Civic (license plate 9GWE107) after he was last seen in Chico on May 1 at 3:08 p.m. KRCR

- ➤ Chico State Earth and Environmental Sciences students presented new data showing that prescribed burns reduce yellow starthistle regrowth (an invasive weed that increases fire risk) in Bidwell Park, and they urge the City of Chico to begin burns early in spring to limit reseeding. - ➤ Temporary fencing is up at Annie's Glen in Lower Bidwell Park as city crews work to restore areas affected by illegal camping and trash cleanup—efforts include vegetation regrowth along creek banks to reduce erosion and planned routine tree pruning before the fence is removed. Action News Now
