  • Chico's 'Save the El Rey' fundraiser will host live music, improv, storytelling, and a film screening at 7 p.m. Friday at the Chico Women's Club (E 3rd Street) to help restore and purchase the historic downtown theater.  KRCR
  • The Downtown Chico Business Association launches an Outdoor Adventure Expo series as part of the Thursday Night Market, held every Thursday in May from 6 to 9 p.m. The expo transforms Chico City Plaza with demos and live shows — the Soul Posse Band performs today with dance parties on May 14 and 21.  Action News Now

  • Kit Miyamoto, a global disaster relief innovator, will receive an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters at Chico State Commencement on May 15. The award recognizes his nearly 40 years of work making communities safer after disasters and his deep ties with Chico State.  Chico State Today
  • Chico State students and faculty earned top awards in national competitions as the Speech & Debate team ranked highly in Tennessee, two students won prizes at the CSU statewide research contest in San Jose, and a piano professor and daughter took first in an international online piano duo contest today.  Chico State Today

HEALTH NEWS

  • A cruise ship headed to Spain’s Canary Islands saw 3 fatalities from the Andes strain of hantavirus, which spreads only in close quarters. Butte County Public Health Officer Jarrett Beaudoin said local risk remains very low + residents should observe basic rodent precautions.  Action News Now
  • Wednesday morning at Enloe Health, veteran nurse Darrell Daughtery received the Nurses Making a Difference Award for nearly 40 years of service, and hospital officials credited partnerships with local nursing programs (Butte College and Chico State) for keeping recruitment steady amid a statewide shortage.  Action News Now

  • Chico State alum Chris Wondolowski was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame on May 6 after a 17-season MLS career (he retired as the league's all-time leading goalscorer), having played at the school from 2001 to 2004.  Action News Now
