CRIME NEWS

  • Enterprise High School Principal Ryan Johnson pleaded not guilty to resisting an officer and public intoxication charges—he remains at his post while he awaits a June 9 court hearing.  Action News Now
  • Chico Police reported a shooting last Thursday at a house on W. 9th Street that injured one person who was taken to the hospital+ officials have red-tagged the house and arrested several residents on unrelated charges while no arrest has been made in connection with the shooting.  Action News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Chico State will hold its 135th Commencement from May 14 to May 18 at University Stadium—over 3,000 undergraduates and nearly 350 graduates will receive degrees and ceremonies can be viewed live on the university website.  Chico State Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Chico's Ad Hoc Growth and Community Development Committee completed a draft report with recommendations to ease housing challenges, noting that rising construction costs and current city codes hinder new housing developments—Council Member Addison Winslow said the report may lead to future code revisions—if approved in upcoming meetings.  Action News Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • Butte County Public Health Department launched a survey asking residents what is missing in dental care after a 2023 exam at an Oroville elementary revealed over half of 250 students had tooth decay and 28 needed emergency care — the director said a shortage of dentists and uncertain future funding may limit the program.  North State Public Radio
  • Chico nurse Mari Dailey received the inaugural Nurses Making a Difference Award at Enloe Health during National Nurses Week, recognizing her role in the Mother & Baby unit. She began her career in 1981 and joined the unit in 1982—her work was inspired by her son's battle with cancer.  Action News Now
