- ➤ On May 8, Allies Pub in Chico hosted a Victory in Europe Day celebration — it ran from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and marked the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe. Action News Now
- ➤ Chico Housing Action Team will hold a groundbreaking ceremony at 3078 Highway 32 to begin building Builders Village—a 61-unit affordable housing project with fully accessible studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom homes for people with disabilities. The project sits on 5 acres of donated land and is supported by a $16.5 million state grant and additional community contributions aimed at reducing housing challenges. Action News Now

- ➤ A semi truck traveling south on Interstate 5 clipped an embankment—causing it to overturn at 3:00 a.m. on May 8—and closed the #2 lane while crews clear the scene. Action News Now

- ➤ Between 2008 and 2024, the Chico Fire Department got twice as many calls while the city's population grew 81% since 2000—forcing the team to struggle with the extra work. The rising call numbers continue to challenge its resources. Action News Now
- ➤ Firefighters in Chico are investigating two fires at Pleasant Valley High School that occurred on April 25 - evidence shows the second fire was separate from the first, and classes continued without cancellation. The Chico Fire Department is facing staffing challenges from a surge in emergency calls - they plan to request funding for a sixth engine and a new station on Hicks Lane with construction potentially beginning in January 2026.
