- ➤ Adopted pup Sally from the Northwest SPCA won the 2026 Butte County Pooch Playoffs held to fund shelter animal care (vaccinations, testing, and microchipping) with roughly $3,500 raised annually since 2022. Action News Now
- ➤ The annual Oroville Airport Day Fly-In will be held Saturday, May 16 at Oroville Airport, featuring aircraft displays, a car show, vendors + food trucks with free admission. Community members can join in enjoying local aviation and car culture. Action News Now
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The City of Chico and the Arts Commission have opened the 2026/2027 Arts and Culture Grant program offering nonprofits awards from $2,000 to $5,000. A Q&A session is scheduled Wednesday, May 20 at 4:30 p.m. at the Municipal Center; applications close at 5 p.m. Friday, June 19. Action News Now

- ➤ Chico State named five professors as recipients of the Lantis Endowed University Chairs, which provide funding for research addressing local challenges (including AI safety, water conservation, housing resilience, family dynamics, and nutrition improvements) and student engagement. - ➤ Chico State will hold its 136th Commencement from May 13 through May 17 at University Stadium, where more than 3,700 graduates will receive their degrees. Additional campus events—including a Native American Graduation Celebration today, Veteran and Latinx festivities later plus live-streamed ceremonies—will add to the week’s celebrations. - ➤ Utility relocation work began Monday on the 109-year-old Pomona Avenue bridge on Elmer Street (in southwest Chico), causing upset among residents who received one-week notice before disruptions began. City officials said the project is essential for safety and may last up to 18 months, with completion expected in December 2027. Action News Now
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Enloe Health is wrapping up construction on the Gonzales Comprehensive Cancer Center, a 100,000 sqft facility in CHICO that will provide chemotherapy + radiation oncology and more. Construction will be completed in late May, and the center will have a grand opening with full operations in August. Action News Now
