- ➤ CHAT held a groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday on a 5-acre lot off Highway 32 in Chico to launch Builder’s Village, a project that will provide 61 ADA-compliant studio apartments for people experiencing homelessness or disabilities — a key step to address a long-standing need. Construction is underway and CHAT will seek further funding — with the project set to open by the end of next year. Action News Now

- ➤ 61-year-old Harold Pulley will face a bench trial at 8:30 a.m. on June 10 at Butte County Superior Court in Oroville for allegedly starting a backfire with a propane torch during the Thompson Fire that destroyed 13 homes—he faces 12 years in prison if convicted. Action News Now

- ➤ Chico will enforce its anti-camping ordinances at three locations—along the bike path from East Ave to Rio Lindo, the bike path from Rio Lindo to Cohasset, and near W. 9th and Hazel—after officials found 11 campers, and crews will issue a seven-day closure notice on May 20 while Legal Services of Northern California verifies the counts. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Butte County received a $7.7 million state grant to renovate the former Enloe Behavioral Health building on Cohasset Road into its first mental health rehabilitation center — which will provide 40 beds for local and regional patients — and the center is expected to create jobs and improve care; Director Scott Kennelly is working with the state to potentially start renovations sooner so it may open by Spring 2026. - ➤ Chico Housing Action Team broke ground Tuesday on a new 61-unit housing project (Builders Village) on Highway 32 west of Chico for aged and disabled residents.
