  • RABA is offering a free shuttle service to the Rodeo until Saturday with buses running every 20 minutes from the Downtown RABA Terminal on Yuba Street, the Canby Transfer Facility at Mount Shasta Mall, and stops along Hilltop Drive near Red Lion Hotel and CR Gibbs.  Action News Now
  • Chico Firefighters host their third annual golf tournament Monday, June 1 at Canyon Oaks Country Club. Teams of four play a scramble for about $700 (covering green fees, meals and prizes) with proceeds aiding the Captain Andrews Scholarship Endowment Fund for Butte College Fire Academy cadets.  KRCR
  • Chico State University announced that North State Public Radio named Helen Barrington as its new executive director after May 4; she brings 30+ years of public media expertise and will work closely with staff and students to enhance local news and cultural programming.  Action News Now

  • Downtown Chico will host Saturday concerts that revive local music and community spirit; a local organizer discussed the plans with reporter Raishaud Pinkney (details clarified in a recent interview).  Action News Now

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Chico State commencement drew over 3,700 graduates' friends and family to downtown, boosting business as shops reported high foot traffic and restaurants had full bookings. Ceremonies began Wednesday at 7 p.m. and continue through Sunday.  Action News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • CSU trustees approved three new bachelor’s degree programs that let students finish in three years instead of four to save about $30,000; individual campuses will decide whether to offer fast-track courses — designed to meet workforce demands.  Action News Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Chinook salmon fishing returns after a three-year ban on Sacramento, Trinity and Klamath Rivers, CA Fish and Wildlife announced. In the Klamath Basin, late spring-run fishing opens July 1 with a one-fish limit, and fall-run seasons start July 16 on Sacramento, Aug. 15 on Klamath and Sept. 1 on Trinity.  Action News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Pomona Avenue bridge in southwest Chico is being replaced, which will close the road for up to 18 months. Local resident Julia Sidman said residents received only a week's notice+leaving little time to adjust.  Action News Now

  • Chico native Skyler Boles, known for transforming Spikeball into a national hit, has introduced Futbocce, a new backyard game that blends soccer with bocce ball. Created two years ago at Community Park & now advancing with trademarks and formal branding, the game aims to offer an accessible sport for all ages.  Action News Now
  • Former Butte College football players Malcolm Dewalt and Christian Vaughn signed with NFL teams on Wednesday, May 13 + Dewalt will join the Atlanta Falcons while Vaughn heads to the Chicago Bears.  Action News Now
