EDUCATION NEWS

  • Chico State commencement began Wednesday night with over 3,700 graduates this weekend; twin Joaquin Cervantes Gonzalez earned his bachelor’s in business finance Saturday while his brother will graduate from San Diego State Sunday (the Gonzalez family drove from Visalia to support both ceremonies).  Action News Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • CAL FIRE Butte crews contained three vegetation fires in Butte County on Friday and Saturday— the Wagon, Palermo, and Shippee incidents burned about 5, 2.6, and 3.06 acres respectively—and mop-up operations finished without injuries.  Action News Now

SPORTS NEWS

  • Eight wildcats from Chico State earned All-West Region honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association — five will compete at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships from May 21—23 in Emporia.  Action News Now
  • The USTFCCCA announced that Chico State Wildcats earned 10 all-region honors in track & field events with standout relay and distance performances by Damian Garcia and other runners. The honors in nine events rank among the highest totals for CCAA programs.  Action News Now
