  • Silver Dollar Fairgrounds debuted the new Redwood Amphitheater on Thursday, offering open lawn seating for 1,500 to 2,000 people and fair gates open from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. through Memorial Day weekend. CEO Jeremi Deosio said the venue is planned to host concerts, weddings, and other events.  KRCR
  • Haven Humane Society postponed the ribbon cutting of its new Disaster Response and Humane Education Center due to unexpected construction delays. The non-profit will share updated event details (new timeline pending) soon.  Action News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • Chico comedian DNA will premiere his first feature film, Messiah Ink, at The Pageant Theatre from June 1-3, and the film—locally shot last summer under intense heat—aims to boost local filmmaking.  North State Public Radio
  • 9-year-old music prodigy Lake Anthony appeared on the Jennifer Hudson show and met Charlie Puth, and he will perform at Duet Day, a benefit for his sister's medical condition, at The Commons at 5 p.m. Saturday, May 30.  Action News Now

  • Butte County Sheriff's deputies visited local schools this week to show students their patrol boat and explain the importance of wearing life jackets ahead of summer.  Action News Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A Chico City Planner said nets and stakes near Bruce Road and Little Chico Creek are protecting newly planted trees and vegetation (a required effort to restore riparian habitat disturbed by the bridge widening project).  Action News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • B-Line Transit will launch its B-Line PLUS Regional paratransit service on May 26 — offering scheduled rides for medical appointments between Chico, Paradise, and Oroville with limited trips from Biggs and Gridley. The service, designed for seniors and ADA-certified riders, requires advance booking and fares range from $10 to $20.  KRCR
  • Governor Newsom urged Californians to avoid Chevron gas stations this Memorial Day weekend after a state analysis found Chevron charges 60 — 80 cents more per gallon than unbranded gas; local prices in Butte and Shasta counties averaged about $5.93 a gallon against a statewide average of $6.13.  Action News Now

  • Mothers Against Drunk Driving launched its Safe Summer campaign ahead of Memorial Day weekend to remind local families to plan safe rides using rideshare apps, designated drivers, or public transit—while law enforcement increases sobriety checkpoints to maintain road and water safety.  Action News Now
  • Residents planning to swim at Sycamore Pool at Bidwell Park should note that sediment and rocks still remain on the pool bottom — tests showed no E. coli but lifeguards will not be on duty this Memorial Day weekend. The pool cleaning is scheduled to begin by June 15.  KRCR
