- ➤ Butte Humane Society in Chico will host fee-waived pet adoptions on June 7 as part of the second annual California Adopt-a-Pet Day—this state-wide effort will join over 150 shelters in finding homes for around 5,000 animals, with pets already vaccinated, spayed/neutered, and microchipped. - ➤ The Tunnel to Towers Foundation awarded a mortgage-free home to a Chico family to honor fallen service member Greg Ponci—his colon cancer was linked to toxic exposure during his service in Afghanistan, which eased the 15-year mortgage burden on his surviving spouse Bethanne who lost him 18 months ago while raising their two children.
