ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • According to the CHP, a 26-year-old woman driving a 2013 Toyota Corolla lost control on a curve on Highway 32 east of Woodland Park Drive near Forest Ranch and crashed into a tree after skidding down an embankment.  Action News Now

CRIME NEWS

  • Officers arrested Brian Quaschnic after he set two vegetation fires along Highway 99 near Butte Creek outside Chico—he was booked on two felony counts of arson with bail set at $75,000.  Action News Now
  • A Magalia resident, Micah Metzker, 41, was arrested on May 25th after a compliance search at his home on Guilford Circle turned up illegal firearms, fireworks, and other contraband — he now faces several charges.  KRCR
  • The Butte County Sheriff's Office said that in March a vehicle last seen with missing Chico women Dolores Sakamoto and Vivian Luna was found off Interstate 5 in Shasta County—human remains were also discovered and await identification by the Shasta County Coroner's Office.  Action News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • True North Housing Alliance nears completion of its Howard Slater Navigation Center that will offer a one-stop resource for homeless and at-risk neighbors and is expected to open in October. The project received a $6,534,000 grant for expanding services and hiring four housing navigators — while funds continue to be raised to finish extra projects like an animal kennel and pet park.  KRCR
  • Officials announced that the Chico Fire Department and Chico Regional Airport will conduct a controlled burn of 185 acres today, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., to improve safety and provide training—pilots have been informed and all permits secured.  Action News Now
