  • The Chico Certified Farmers Market will open at the Farmer's Brewery Parking Lot at Meriam Park on Sunday, June 1 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.—visitors can buy fresh produce, handmade goods, prepared foods, and other items while enjoying a Market Match offer that supports EBT purchases.  Action News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Thursday, 27 automotive technician students from Butte College's Skyway Center graduated. Several graduates have secured job offers in the automotive industry — they are set to start soon.  Action News Now
  • Chico State earned its fourth STARS Gold rating from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education, showing its strong work on green campus projects. The university submitted its April report and highlighted projects like a net-zero energy building — a key part of its ongoing efforts — to protect the environment and boost learning.  Chico State Today

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Cal Fire Butte County warns residents to manage their lawns and clear vegetation to reduce fire risks from improper equipment use. Officials advise using power equipment before 10 a.m. (to avoid high temperatures) and removing rocks from mowing paths to prevent sparks.  KRCR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Chico announced a $22 million construction season to replace bridges, add new road connections, and upgrade sewers—bridge projects will start on June 2 while road improvements begin mid-June and sewer upgrades began on April 28.  Action News Now
  • Butte County has renewed its agreement with PG&E to use a water-dropping helicopter for wildfire suppression this fire season — the helicopter will be based at Chico Airport and available for local and mutual aid calls from mid-June to mid-November. The first two flight hours are free, and additional time will cost $9,500 per hour under a state reimbursement plan.  KRCR
