  • Chico’s 2nd Annual 4th of July Parade is seeking participants and volunteers as the sign-up deadline is June 20—local businesses, organizations, and community members can join the event in downtown to celebrate with marching, riding, and dancing.  Action News Now

CRIME NEWS

  • Mariah Gabrielle Rodriguez was arrested for allegedly starting a vegetation fire in Thermalito on May 31 — she was identified by witnesses, found with a lighter, and is now held on charges of arson to forest land and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia with $75,000 bail.  KRCR
  • Authorities arrested a woman on Saturday in Thermalito for allegedly starting a vegetation fire in the 900th block of 14th Street—witnesses identified her, police found her with a lighter, and she now faces charges of arson to forest land plus possession of drug paraphernalia with bail set at $75,000.  Action News Now
  • A Chico woman, Carrie Love, was arrested after a 29-mile police chase ended in a rollover on Sunday, June 1—deputies reported her stolen Subaru lost control after spike strips were deployed and she fled on foot before being caught.  KRCR
  • The California Highway Patrol activated a Silver Alert for 69-year-old Annette Teixiera after Chico Police reported she was last seen on the Esplanade and W-5th Avenue on Saturday, May 31 at about 6 p.m.; her family said she left a local medical facility and had not returned home, and anyone with information is urged to call 9-1-1.  Action News Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Cal Fire Butte County reported multiple vegetation fires over the weekend near populated areas due to red flag conditions, and aerial firefighting resources remain on alert to deploy retardant if needed. The agency cautions that many fires are preventable—urging residents to avoid open flames, mowing dry grass, or outdoor burning.  KRCR

  • Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea launched a new podcast last month—The Sheriff's Mic: Cleared to Talk with Sheriff Honea—to discuss public safety, criminal justice and local county issues. In the two released episodes he interviewed regional guests and he will soon feature county officials to review local cases and staffing challenges.  North State Public Radio
