CRIME NEWS

  • A Chico woman, Lorayna Patricia Gonsalves, was sentenced to 25 years to life by Superior Court Judge Kimberly Merrifield for trying to run over a police officer downtown in September 2023 — she also got an 11-year sentence for fleeing the scene.  Action News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Chico Homelessness Ad Hoc Committee, including City Councilman Mike O'Brien, is exploring new methods to help homeless people who resist services by reviewing Senate Bill 43 and considering changes to local ordinances. The committee will meet on June 11 to address issues such as safety concerns and past negative experiences (which contribute to resistance and may widen the grave disability pool).  Action News Now
  • The City of Chico will launch its upgraded, cloud-based eTRAKiT permit system on June 16—users will be able to pay permit fees online and benefit from enhanced efficiency. The transition starts on June 8 when attachment uploads are disabled and continues on June 12 when the system becomes view-only.  Action News Now
  • During Tuesday night’s meeting, the city council revisited the 2025-26 fiscal year budget and discussed deferring road projects to fund staffing for Engine 1 to improve fire safety. The proposal passed with a vote of 4—3 as members debated the change.  KRCR

  • Chico High Panthers lost to the Acalanes Dons in the CIF playoffs on June 4th — the team said they were proud of the strong plays they made even though they lost.  Action News Now
