Good morning, Chico.

Chico hosts several community events this weekend.

Saturday, June 6, features the Paradise Grazing Festival at Terry Ashe Park along with the Stonewall Chico Pride Festival at City Plaza, while Sunday brings the 49er Fair Pancake Breakfast at Butte Creek Canyon + local vendors and fun.

The Neighborhood Cat Advocates of Butte County reached a milestone by spaying or neutering their 20,000th cat and returning it home — their Trap-Neuter-Return program helps control feral populations.

CAL FIRE Butte Unit crews contained a vegetation fire on Mud Creek Road in Cohasset on Thursday using four engines, a hand crew, a dozer and one air tanker, finishing mop-up operations by 8:40 p.m. as the cause remains under investigation.

On Thursday, June 4, Chico State demonstrated an AI-enabled drone at its university farm as part of a project combining agriculture, computer science, mechatronics and engineering to help walnut growers; the team will test the technology in 11 orchards across Butte, Tehama & Glenn counties this summer.

A wet winter is raising fire risk — extra grass and brush dry under summer heat.

A historic snow drought in the Sierras and an early March heatwave set record temperatures across the region, building hazardous fire conditions for the upcoming season.

Starting in July, visitors can park free for two hours in selected downtown long-term lots as the city council approved a pilot program to boost summer activity + support local businesses.

The program runs through September.

A proposed hotel project near California Park remains stalled as building permits for the empty lot at Highway 32 and Bruce Road have expired.

The applicant may apply for new permits by next February — Continuum Hospitality has not provided an update yet.

Beyond Golf Chico is launching a new 9-hole par-3 course and mini driving range in DeGarmo Park this summer — designed to welcome golfers of every skill level, with shot-tracking technology to provide real-time swing feedback.

A new summer adult golf league at DeGarmo Park will begin every Thursday night from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in June (registration is open for $60 per person) for players of all skill levels.
