ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Emergency crews are working at a traffic collision at Esplanade — 7th Avenue in Chico as hard road closures delay drivers who must plan alternate routes. Action News Now
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ At Home is filing for bankruptcy and plans to close 26 locations including its Chico Marketplace store on East 20th Street as it restructures to cut $2 billion in debt; the Chico store (opened in February 2023) does not yet have a set closing date. Action News Now
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ CAL FIRE said a wildfire in North Chico burned 4.6 acres following an illegal debris burn — resulting in the arrest of probationer Omar Luna Rocha for violating fire safety rules on Sunday. He faces charges with bail set at $15,000 — and all residential burning was suspended as of Monday. Action News Now

- ➤ Chico native Bryan Hannah (a Chico State alumnus) said his work at Gateway Science Museum helped him overcome imposter syndrome and build a career in production graphic design. He now works at The Printed Image and credits designing exhibits like Fossils and Formations with changing how he sees his work. Chico State Today
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Congressman Doug LaMalfa announced that five Northern California students were appointed to prestigious U.S. military academies. Nathaniel Brockhoff from Plumas Lake will attend the U.S. Naval Academy and Josiah McCormick from Redding, Lily Miller from Yuba City, Caden Stickney and Alexander Willingham from Chico will attend the U.S. Air Force Academy—he encouraged high school juniors to apply for nominations this spring. - ➤ The Chico City Council met Tuesday night to choose one of four design options for South Park Drive in Bidwell Park, following the Bidwell Park and Playground Commission’s recommendation of Option Three which maintains one-way vehicle travel while adding a multi-use path for pedestrians and cyclists. The plan removes 40 parking spaces on the north side and adds 44 new spaces on the south side with roadway replacement and hazardous tree removal, and the final design will be completed in eight months with construction likely starting this summer. - ➤ Lake Oroville is nearly full at 98% capacity as the California Department of Water Resources monitors water flows of about 6,100 cubic feet per second and releases at 4,500 cubic feet per second from the Oroville-Thermalito complex — these flows support local agriculture, business and communities.
