  • Today, the Heinke family marked 100 years of the farm in Paradise as they shared their five-generation legacy with reporter Jerry Olenyn. The milestone highlights a century of local farming tradition.  Action News Now

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • CAL FIRE Butte Unit stopped the spread of the Clark Fire near Camelot Equestrian Park on Friday — the blaze burned about 25 acres in Butte Valley and mop-up efforts were underway as investigators looked into its cause.  Action News Now

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A new 20,000 square foot REI store opens today in Chico, creating between 35 and 45 jobs and providing a $10,000 grant to Chico Velo as part of its two-day grand opening—an outdoor social event will feature booths from two dozen local recreation nonprofits.  Action News Now
  • Chico Velo received a grant from REI for its new co-op store opening in south Chico today. The National Weather Service issued a Fire Weather Watch with gusty north winds and low humidity from Saturday morning through Sunday morning — officials caution outdoor burning is not recommended.  Action News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • Since 2017, Mark and Claire Johnson have hosted Listen Up! House Concerts in their backyard in Chico where local and touring musicians perform intimately on a donation based model. The events overcame challenges from extreme heat, smoke, and the COVID-19 pandemic and included a show on June 14 that drew 50 to 100 fans eager for live music.  North State Public Radio

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Alumni from Paradise High School’s Class of 2015 have launched a GoFundMe campaign to support their first reunion since the Camp Fire—seeking donations to replace keepsakes lost in the fire and cover costs such as food truck expenses and decorations. The reunion will be held at Paradise Aquatic Park in July and is expected to bring together approximately 100 to 120 former students.  KRCR
  • A Wednesday night meeting saw the board uphold its decision not to remove girls volleyball coach Chas Konopka after an investigation while seven players and a parent voiced their opposition. The superintendent's letter said athletic staff will receive additional training to address future complaints.  Action News Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Windy and dry conditions will continue through the weekend in the Northstate, and several fires — the Rancho, Happy, Knoll and Rush Fires — have ignited in recent days. Cal Fire officials urged residents to check ignition sources as a red flag warning remains and burn permits are suspended.  KRCR
