  • Ace Hardware in Chico gave 71 free fans to families in need yesterday morning (the $1,300 purchase was funded by customer donations) as triple-digit heat is expected this weekend. The Salvation Army chose the recipients and health officials warn that fans offer only limited relief during extreme heat.  Action News Now
  • Results of the 2025 Youth Livestock Auction were released from earlier in June at Silver Dollar Fairgrounds—482 animals sold for about $1.5 million.  Action News Now

  • On Saturday, June 21, Susan R. won $131,883 playing Buffalo Lightning Link at Gold Country Casino Resort in Oroville. Her win marks the second major jackpot this month+ a previous win delivered $1.3 million on Dancing Drums Ultimate Explosion.  KRCR

CRIME NEWS

  • Chico Police responded at around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday to reports of multiple overdoses on the 100 block of Silver Dollar Way that left one person dead and two individuals treated at a local hospital.  Action News Now
  • In Chico, the Butte County Sheriff's Office arrested Cardenas—who was on searchable probation—for stealing an ice chest and baseball hat from a little league game after deputies found the items in his backpack.  Action News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Chico State’s rapid rehousing program helped students like J.M. overcome housing insecurity by covering rent and offering support—improving their academic outcomes and mental health. A three-year evaluation found that students in the program experienced more stable housing and higher graduation rates compared to those receiving short-term assistance.  Chico State Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On June 25, Chico Police held an all-day emergency response drill at Hooker Oak Elementary School where four teams practiced simulated scenarios to improve coordination and readiness. The training ended at 4 p.m. and was conducted in coordination with the Chico Unified School District—residents were asked to avoid the area during the exercise.  KRCR
