  • Chico Police responded Tuesday after a rattlesnake was found hidden in the bark beneath the slide on the play structure at Hooker Oak Park—officials urged park visitors to keep a safe distance and call 911 if needed.  Action News Now
  • The Junior Livestock Auction at Silver Dollar Fair sold 482 animals for $1.5 million and was held two weeks after the fair due to construction, with a shift toward more breeding divisions and increased prizes for youth. Exhibitors said family activities including bounce houses and nightly events made the auction safe and fun for children.  Action News Now

  • Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. in Chico was named one of America's Greatest Workplaces by Newsweek and Plant-A Insights Group after reviewing over 400,000 employee interviews and 120 key performance indicators. The brewing company said the honor shows its strong work culture and care for workers.  Action News Now

CRIME NEWS

  • Chico police arrested Ivory Peteet, a wanted 28-year-old with multiple warrants, after a foot chase on a bike path near W. 1st Avenue and N. Cedar on June 25—officers used a taser to apprehend him before transporting him to a local hospital.  KRCR

CULTURE NEWS

  • Chico performer Sierra Hall debuted a rainbow clown juggling act at Duffy's Tavern during Pride month and has drawn caricatures at the Thursday Night Market while building on a career that began in local theater as a child. She now adds burlesque and drag to her act—an approach that expands her artistic range in Chico.  North State Public Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Chico police simulated an active shooter drill at Hooker Oak Elementary on June 25 and worked with Chico Unified and emergency services+ to practice a coordinated response to potential school threats. The exercise builds on past regional incidents and will be refined for future training.  North State Public Radio
  • Butte County Fire Department and PG&E unveiled a Blackhawk helicopter to boost wildfire fighting this summer at Chico Air Attack Base + the contract, approved by the County Board of Supervisors and maintained through PJ Helicopters, will support ground crews until fire conditions ease or the agreement is extended.  KRCR
  • Caltrans will install five new traffic lights at busy intersections along Highway 32 in Chico as part of the Highway 32 Pavement Rehabilitation Project—covering the road from Highway 99 to Muir Avenue—to improve road safety and manage traffic flow while work on drainage, sidewalks, and pavement continues.  Action News Now
