- ➤ Chico Police responded Tuesday after a rattlesnake was found hidden in the bark beneath the slide on the play structure at Hooker Oak Park—officials urged park visitors to keep a safe distance and call 911 if needed. Action News Now
- ➤ The Junior Livestock Auction at Silver Dollar Fair sold 482 animals for $1.5 million and was held two weeks after the fair due to construction, with a shift toward more breeding divisions and increased prizes for youth. - ➤ Chico performer Sierra Hall debuted a rainbow clown juggling act at Duffy's Tavern during Pride month and has drawn caricatures at the Thursday Night Market while building on a career that began in local theater as a child. - ➤ Chico police simulated an active shooter drill at Hooker Oak Elementary on June 25 and worked with Chico Unified and emergency services+ to practice a coordinated response to potential school threats. - ➤ Butte County Fire Department and PG&E unveiled a Blackhawk helicopter to boost wildfire fighting this summer at Chico Air Attack Base + the contract, approved by the County Board of Supervisors and maintained through PJ Helicopters, will support ground crews until fire conditions ease or the agreement is extended. - ➤ Caltrans will install five new traffic lights at busy intersections along Highway 32 in Chico as part of the Highway 32 Pavement Rehabilitation Project—covering the road from Highway 99 to Muir Avenue—to improve road safety and manage traffic flow while work on drainage, sidewalks, and pavement continues.
